Mitie provide services to the hospice which is how we came to support their Christmas tree collection and fundraising campaign. This is now the 2nd year in which Mitie have supported the campaign and its growing bigger each year. The campaign itself ties in really well with our ethos of turning waste into a resource.

To kick start the new year, volunteers from Mitie’s Waste Management business supported John Taylor Hospice on their annual ‘Tree-Mendous’ campaign. The campaign involved volunteers collecting Christmas trees throughout the area of Birmingham in exchange for a donation made to the charity. All donations had been made prior to the collection so the locations could be cleverly mapped out to ensure the best routes would be taken for the collection teams.
The trees would be collected and then loaded into the vans where they would then be transported to a volunteer's chipper in which the trees would be recycled and then later reused. The campaign has also supported in reducing the impact on the carbon footprint as the typical disposal option is for residents is to load their vehicles and drive their trees to the local tip.
So far the campaign has raised over £3,500 which will be used to provide care to those living with a terminal illness and their families.
