Study, Sleep, Thrive: Why Every Student Needs a Plant

on Monday, 22 September 2025. Posted in Latest News

As a new academic year begins, students across the country are moving into dorms, flats, and shared houses. While setting up a study space, stocking up on kitchen essentials, and decorating with personal touches are all part of the excitement, there’s one simple addition that can make a big difference to student life: indoor plants.

Why plants belong in every student dorm
Life at university can be fast-paced, stressful, and sometimes overwhelming. Indoor plants not only add style and personality to a space, but they also offer tangible benefits to your health, wellbeing, and productivity.

Stress relief and mental health support Research shows that being around plants can reduce stress and anxiety — something every student can benefit from during exam season or assignment deadlines. Caring for plants also creates a sense of routine and calm, grounding you in the present moment.

Boosted focus and productivity Plants have been linked to improved concentration and memory. A little greenery on your desk can make study sessions more effective, helping you stay focused for longer.

A homely, personalised space University dorms are often small and plain — plants bring life, colour, and personality, making your dorm feel more like home.

Care Tips
  • Use a mug or water bottle if you don’t have a watering can
  • Rotate plants for even growth
  • Wipe dust off leaves once a month
  • Don’t overwater — most student plants prefer “dryish” soil

Adding plants to your student dorm isn’t just about decoration — it’s about wellbeing, productivity, and creating a space where you can thrive. So, as you unpack your books and settle into the new term, consider making room for a little green companion.
